The bill has passed and is sitting on the President’s desk waiting to be signed!  This is a huge step in the fight to end Africa’s longest running war.  Watch and share!

Art Therapy In Haiti – You Can Help!

Hey Everyone! As many of you know I am heading back to Haiti in a few weeks.

While in Haiti, I will be working on multiple projects such as helping to build an orphanage, providing family portraits to local families,  and documenting stories of earthquake survivors.

However, there is one project that I am extremely excited about and that is an Art Therapy Project with children who survived or lost relatives in the January earthquake.

This will be an amazing opportunity for the children of Haiti to express their emotions and feelings in a constructive and creative way.

But to make this project happen I need YOUR help!

Within the next week and a half I am looking to collect as many basic art supplies as possible.

::Supplies Needed::

- Sketch Books (We need 60 total. This is our biggest need!)
- Kids Oil Pastels
- Kids watercolor sets
- Crayons
- Colored Pencils
- Regular Pencils
- Pencil Sharpeners
- Modeling clay
- Regular construction paper
- kids safety scissors
- glue sticks.

All of these are pretty basic and cheap supplies that can be found in stores such as Wal-Mart, Target, Kroger’s, etc.

$5 or $10 can go a long way to help a child express, perhaps for the first time, the emotions and pain s/he has felt since the devastating earthquake that rocked their country.

If you would be willing to purchase some of these supplies that would be amazing!

Simply leave me a message or send me an e-mail saying that you are going to buy some supplies and I will come pick them up from you.

Thank you for showing your love and generosity to the children of a country that I love deeply.

10 For Tents **UPDATED**

Posted on : 12-02-2010 | By : AndyWalker | In : Life, Social Justice

You are all aware that Haiti, a country I love, was rocked by an earthquake one month ago.

Tons of amazing work has been done to help rescue and care for earthquake survivors.

But there is still more to be done and YOU can be a part of saving lives.

Over 700,000 people still have no reliable shelter to give them protection from the harsh weather conditions in Haiti and privacy for life.

These are people just like you.
Like your mom.
Like your dad.
Like your brothers and sisters.

Why is this so urgent?

Great question!  In less than 16 days the rainy season starts in Haiti which means those 700,000 displaced people, many of whom are still suffering from serious injuries and complications from the earthquake, will be stuck out in the rain with no shelter.

So here is my challenge.

I am looking for at least 10 people to donate $20 to buy TWO tents.

————————————————-

UPDATE!! We have reached our goal of buying two tents and have now finished buying tent #5!! You guys are amazing!

More people are still asking to get involved so we  have up’d our goal to SEVEN tents.

So we are looking for 10 more people to donate $20 to buy TWO more tents.

————————————————-

These tents will be bought and shipped directly to an amazing organization,
A Home In Haiti.

This is a legit non profit that has taken on the challenge of collecting over 200,000 tents in 15 days for the 700,000 homeless in Haiti.

Please check out their website so you know what this is all about: http://ahomeinhaiti.org

So there it is, all laid out.

We need 10 people to help buy 2 more tents.

These two tents will house 6 people each. **Click here to see the tent**

Just think, 10 of us can give 12 people a home.

A lot of you reading this are young and broke but we can pull together and do this.
We are all in this together.

It’s that simple.

Please be apart of this amazing opportunity to love our neighbors.

If you live in the Clarksburg/Bridgeport/Fairmont area get a hold of me via Twitter/Facebook/Blog to donate your money to buy the tents.  I will meet up with you in person.

If you live further away and want to be apart of buying these tents together as a group send me a message and we will work something out or you can mail check/money to:

ATTN: Andy Walker
Clarksburg Baptist Church
P.O. Box 327
Clarksburg, WV 26302

**Once the tent purchases have been made I will email everyone a copy of the receipt to maintain transparency.**

Also, if you would just like to give by yourself that is awesome as well…Just go to http://ahomeinhaiti.org and make your donation!
